The Bright Ones - Duet Feat. Amie Beckwith of Horse Cult

about

This is a classic Asmo song about longing to connect with the great beyond with guest vocals from the amazingly talented Amie Beckwith of the Portland Neo-folk band Horse Cult. I was introduced to Horse Cult when I was in Portland speaking at the Flambeau Noir conference there in 2017. My first meeting with Amie she hooked me up with a bottle of their specially branded Horse Cult mead, and I knew from there great things would follow. I was blown away by the incredible musicianship of this band, one of the best live neo-folk performance I'd seen since Awen at the Mausoleum in Houston in 2006.

This track was originally the title track for the album The Bright Ones, we did a great video colab of it with NewTeT which you can find on YouTube, and then we discovered it had a really great acoustic feel and so did it again on the Black Fire E.P. It's a song about dreaming about the great hear-after and longing for that sense of tranquility and closure that it seems to promise.

We were so floored when Amie agreed to do vocals on it and they fit in as though the song had just been waiting for them to be added. I just melt every time I hear this and I hope it strikes you on as deep a level as it did me!

lyrics

Paul:

I saw them flash across the sky

Within the blinking of an eye

A thousand flaming orbs of light

Aime:

A sign of closure and return

A sign of dreams untold and lost

Together:

One more look before we pass

Together:

Ooh here come the bright ones

Ooh they come for me

Ooh here come the bright ones

Ooh they come for me

Aime:

I cling to hope it slips away

Waiting for the end of day

Remembering all those years gone by

Paul:

Memory slips into the night

Lost the will to fuss and fight

Together:

Just let the others take me home

Together:

Ooh here come the bright ones

Ooh they come for me

Ooh here come the bright ones

Ooh they come for me
